Smaller than JPG. Great for websites.

Why convert JPG to WebP?

WebP compresses photos more efficiently than JPG, so the same image at the same visual quality is typically 25–35% smaller. On a page with lots of photos that adds up to faster loading, lower bandwidth costs and better PageSpeed scores.

Every current browser displays WebP, and WordPress, Shopify, Squarespace and most other platforms accept WebP uploads. Keep your original JPGs, though: some email programs, print services and older software still expect JPG.

A JPG is already compressed, so converting it compresses the image a second time. The default quality of 85% is a good balance; if you spot artifacts in fine detail, raise it to 90%. For the biggest savings on a website, also pick a maximum size of 2048 px or 1080 px.

Which format should I choose?

JPG
Opens on every phone, computer, and website. Pick this if you are not sure.
PNG
Lossless, so no quality is lost. File sizes are 3–5× larger than JPG.
WebP
Around 30% smaller than JPG at the same quality. Supported by all modern browsers.
AVIF
The smallest files, often half the size of JPG. Newer, so a few older apps cannot open it.

Frequently asked questions

What is a JPG file?

JPG (or JPEG) is the most common photo format in the world. It uses lossy compression to keep photos small, and practically every device, app and website supports it.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your web browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device, and we never see them.

Is there a limit on how many photos I can convert?

No. Add as many as you like. Very large batches are processed a few at a time so your device does not run out of memory.

Does converting reduce quality?

At the default settings the difference is invisible. Choose PNG for a lossless copy, or raise the quality slider for JPG, WebP and AVIF.

What happens to photo metadata like location?

Converted images do not include the original metadata (EXIF), so GPS location, camera details and timestamps are removed. That makes them safer to share publicly.

Why is AVIF slower?

AVIF squeezes images much smaller, which takes more computation. Expect a few seconds per photo.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS.
